The Yumi is a uniquely designed seat with beautiful lines. Designer and maker of outstanding furniture/sculpture, Laura Kishimoto, created this fun and beautiful curvy chair. A recent graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design, Kishimoto believes that creativity is a process, balance and harmony between the material, flow, energy, design and product. Kishimoto’s design series are unique and speak of themselves; they are sculptures disguised as common furniture pieces. Each concept design of hers is a carved piece of art – a unique and marvelous composition of furniture design and fine arts. Created by using ash veneer and mild steel, the Yumi creations emphasize that a piece of furniture can stand out as a style statement – it can be functional, meaningful and beautiful. Furniture can narrate and generate emotional responses just like a piece of art design and sculpture. This curvy chair presents a beautiful flow of curves formed through the maker’s aesthetic decisions combined with the will and flow of the materials themselves. The curves are beautiful and free flowing without any clamps or molds. The free flow and bent lamination give the product an all-natural look with the waves, wedges, and layer of veneer suggesting a state of constant balance and harmony.
