Regenerating Bioengineered Muscle

A bioengineered muscle is being studied and tested at Duke University through a window at the back of a living mouse. This allows real-time monitoring of the integration and maturation of the muscle inside a living and walking animal. The team led by Nenad Bursac has discovered that preparing better muscle requires two things: well-developed contractile muscle fibers and a pool of muscle stem cells, known as satellite cells. They put their study to the test by running it through different trials and the results showed that it was more than 10 times stronger than any previous engineered muscles. Video:
