Innovation drives us forward to do better. It gives us new materials, new combinations, and revolutionary new ideas. One motivation for innovation lies in trying to save the planet. People have done well to lessen their carbon footprint or waste, but we can always do better. To cut down on plastic waste that ends up in landfills or the ocean, Emma Cohen and Miles Pepper have come up with a new product to save on plastic waste, the FinalStraw: collapsible, reusable straw.
This straw is the first of its kind. When collapsed, all 23 cm of the FinalStraw can fit into a case not much bigger than a car key fob along with a squeegee to keep the straw clean. Available in multiple colours, the case is fashionable and practical. The straw is BPA-free, dishwasher safe, and is not dangerous to leave in the hands of children. The FinalStraw is incredibly lightweight, only weighing 2.8 ounces so there is no reason to not bring it with you everywhere. Both the straw and the handle of the squeegee are made from stainless steel. The tip of the squeegee is made from food-grade silicone.
By using the FinalStraw over plastic, single-use straws you can save the planet from upwards of 500 pieces of plastic that can harm ecosystems. To find out more about how you can help make this world a better place and save over time with FinalStraw, check out their Kickstarter.
