Barisieur: The Alarm Clock and Coffee Brewer

For most of us the morning routine follows the usual process—the alarm clock sounds loudly and abruptly, hit the snooze button (maybe more than once for some), roll out of bed, shower, brush teeth and so on. But what if that routine can begin in a gentler way to ease into the morning? Designed by British industrial designer Josh Renouf, the Barisieur is both an alarm clock and coffee brewer that aims to do just that. For the non-morning people out there, this may be something worth getting up in the A.M. for. barisieur-the-alarm-clock-and-coffee-brewer-1 Rather than a blaring alarm sound to suddenly wake you, the Barisieur begins the morning process with the faint movement of stainless steel ball bearings that boil the water through induction heating at the user’s pre-selected time. barisieur-the-alarm-clock-and-coffee-brewer-2 The heated water, then, transfers through a tube and into a mesh metal basket that holds the ground coffee, where it filters into a glass cup, resulting in the aromatic smell of freshly brewed coffee. barisieur-the-alarm-clock-and-coffee-brewer-3 The Barisieur also contains a small compartment that stores coffee beans and sugar, as well as a tube for 1-2 shots of milk or cream. barisieur-the-alarm-clock-and-coffee-brewer-4 Renouf notes the preparation process can act as a ritual that involves getting the beans, milk, and sugar ready for the next day, signalling the “body and mind that it is time to unwind and relax,” as he states on his website. Now that’s a ritual we could all get used to, an easy and welcoming way of waking up in the mornings, especially in the winters! Video:
