Argus II: Bionic Eyes That Can Restore Partial Vision

The Argus II is a Retinal Prosthesis System known as the bionic eye or retinal implant. It electrically stimulates the retina to induce visual perception for blind individuals. A small video camera in the patient’s glasses captures the scene and sends it to the patient’s VPU or video processing unit to process and to transform the scene into instructions that are wirelessly sent back to the glasses through a cable. The Argus II creates a perception of pattern of light. Patients then learn how to interpret these patterns with their retinal implant.
