Recently I walked into a Club Monaco and tried on a pair of Persols for fun as my friend was looking around for sunglasses. I’ve had a few friends that have owned Persols and I was introduced to this brand many years back, however I never fully appreciated some of the functional designs incorporated into their glasses.
The particular pair that I tried on was the 714 Steve McQueen sunglasses. These are a pair of foldable sunglasses that, when folded, are size of a single lens and a couple of cm’s thick. Besides being portable, Persol has also developed ways of making their sunglasses very comfortable. They are able to achieve this in two major ways: a rounded bridge that eliminates sharp edges where pressure points can develop over long periods of time and an overmolded cantilever spring design imbedded into the side of the frame – a very elegant solution that is not as mechanically complex as the spring hinges found in many other optical and sunglasses and allows for multiple points of bending along the temple.
The lenses are also made of a crystal, which provide superior optical clarity while still protecting the eyes from harmful UV rays. Comfort, clarity and classic cool make these sunglasses a worthy purchase for years to come.
