When it comes to technology, we all know small things can make a big impact. But did you know a small patch can now make you practically invisible to mosquitoes? The drive to combat mosquito-borne diseases fueled a team of scientists, engineers, and product designers to come up with a product that can save millions of lives: the Kite Mosquito Patch.
Kite is a small, lightweight and durable patch of scientific wonder that can provide up to 48 hours of protection against mosquitoes. Measuring at 1.5 x 1.5″, it is a simple sticker patch that easily attaches onto clothes, baby carriers, backpacks, etc.
According to research, mosquitoes track humans through carbon dioxide in our breath. Kite uses non-toxic yet powerful FDA-approved food grade compounds that combine to act as a spatial repellent to block mosquitoes’ ability to detect carbon dioxide. It’s much like wearing Harry Potter’s Cloak of Invisibility against mosquitoes.
Though they’re still in their crowdfunding stage, the team has successfully raised 100% of their goal in less than 5 days. Now, they’re off to conduct large-scale testing and help families in Uganda, where malaria infection rates are over 60%.
