clamp-lamp-1

This lamp wowed me when I first saw the video! Product Tank, inspired by a children’s toy horse that collapses when pressed, set out to design an Anglepoise lamp that’s not like any created before.

Product Tank reverse-engineered the collapsing mechanism, and created a clamp that would be used to lock the three joints, each having two degrees of freedom (rotating on the axis of the shaft and tilting forward and backward). When the clamp is released, the lamp would have maximum agility, allowing the user to manipulate the form of the lamp in any way desired. The Clamp Lamp also has a suction base that will securely anchor the base. With this design, the lamp could theoretically be anchored on a vertical surface like a wall as well (?) – depends on the designer’s intent.

In addition to the functional aspect, this lamp is also beautifully made – even though it is still only a prototype! The joints are very salient, and the clamps very intuitive to the user. I also like how the on/off switch is positioned at the end of the shaft like some flashlight designs.

Doesn’t it look so easy and appealing to use?
